Turbo VPN Lite 1.5.4 for Android

Turbo VPN Lite 1.5.4 is a simplified edition of the Turbo VPN app for Android from Innovative Connecting. It keeps the core idea, one tap to connect to a VPN server, and trims the interface to the essentials. The app is free, and you can download Turbo VPN Lite for Android from Google Play.

Quick facts

• Version: 1.5.4
• Developer: Innovative Connecting
• Platform: Android
• Licence: free
• Size: about 51.62 MB according to catalogue data
• Get it on: Google Play

How it differs from Turbo VPN

Innovative Connecting publishes two Android apps under the Turbo VPN name. The main Turbo VPN app is the full-featured one, with more settings and the VIP subscription options. The Lite edition is aimed at people who want nothing more than a switch: open, connect, done. That makes it easy to hand to a family member who is not comfortable with technical options, or to use as a quick shield before joining a hotel or café Wi-Fi. In practice both apps connect to the company's VPN servers and encrypt traffic in the same basic way, so choose based on how much control you want. Do not install both at once: Android allows only one active VPN, and two similar apps just cause confusion. Note that "Lite" refers to the interface rather than the download size, which the catalogue lists as larger than a typical minimal app.

Guide: connect in a minute

1. Install the app from Google Play and check that the developer is Innovative Connecting.
2. Open it and tap the connect button.
3. Allow Android to create the VPN connection.
4. Confirm the key icon in the status bar.
5. Disconnect when you leave the public network.

When the connection drops

Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data, close and reopen the app and make sure no other VPN is running. If Android's battery saver keeps stopping the app in the background, exclude Turbo VPN Lite from battery optimisation in the system settings. After a system update, install any pending app update from Google Play.

What to keep in mind

• Free VPNs show ads or offer upgrades to cover their costs.
• The VPN operator can see which servers you connect to; read the privacy policy.
• A VPN does not hide your identity from accounts you sign in to.
• Some banking and streaming apps block VPN connections.
• VPN rules differ by country and by school or workplace network.

Pros and cons
